Since September 27th Artsakh, an independent republic populated by Armenians and not recognized in the world, has been under relentless attacks by Azerbaijan’s army, backed by Turkey, that is sending Syrian mercenaries and other military support. During this time thousands of people lost their homes, soldiers and civilians died, cities and civilian infrastructure were bombed, as well as objects of cultural and historical value. Armenians get threatened with annihilation again, after 100 years since Armenian Genocide in Turkey.
The piece “Ջուր և Աղոթք (Water and Prayer)” brings together field recordings of water, synthesized sounds based on water, mixed with samples of Armenian prayers from Komitas Vardapet’s choral work Patarag (Armenian divine liturgy). Water here is used as a sacred symbol of life and cleanse, and Prayer represents the faith to good and love. It is easy today, in the middle of the war and other global crises, for our hearts to harden and get filled with anger and hatred. I hope this piece will bring calmness to our minds and peace to our hearts.
Let us all as humans do what we can to bring peace to Artsakh as soon as possible.
